WATCH 'Trese,' PH's first-ever anime series on Netflix

The much-awaited anime series “Trese” is premiering on Netflix on June 11, 2021, just in time for the country’s celebration of its independence.

The streaming platform released today the official trailer for “Trese,” which is based on the Philippine graphic novel created by Budjette Tan and KaJO Baldisimo. Just like in the graphic novel, the series is set in alternate Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding among humans. At the center of it is Alexandra Trese, who finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld composed of malevolent supernatural beings.

The six-episode series features two ensemble of voice actors, bringing to life the anime’s characters in the English and Filipino. The American cast is composed of actors with Filipino roots, leading them is actress Shay Mitchell as the series’ protagonist, together with Darren Criss, Jon Jon Briones, Manny Jacinto, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Dante Basco.

The all-Pinoy cast is equally talented. Filipino actress Liza Soberano lends her voice to portray Alexandra Trese in the Filipino language version of the series. She is joined by local professional voice talents Simon dela Cruz (as Crispin and Basilio), Apollo Abraham (Captain Guerrero), Christopher Carlo Caling (Hank), Christian Velarde (Nuno), and Eugene Adalia (Anton Trese). Well-respected Filipino Language Voice Artist Director Rudolf Baldonado directed the local voice talents.

Filipino band UDD, formerly known as Up Dharma Down, composed the official soundtrack for “Trese,” titled “PAAGI,” with lyrics by Armi Millare and Paul Yap.

Prepare you “tabi tabi po” as we’re about to see an aswang and maligno-infested Manila this June.
