Capiz stadium rehab mulled

ROXAS City – The provincial government of Capiz plans to rehabilitate the Villareal Stadium.

This came after the Stadium’s income doubled in just a month, according to Carmen Andrade, capitol consultant economic enterprises.

In July, the Stadium earned P348,342, and revenue racked up to P713,658 in August, said Andrade.

She said the wooden floor of the basketball court will be refurbished this year.
“The floor (maple wood) has started to darken,” she said. “We also plan to replace the court’s lights with daylight [lamps].”
Villareal Stadium houses an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a National Basketball Association-standard basketball court.

A German contractor Reichert, a company certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations, built the basketball court in 2006.

Next year, 10 air-conditioning units will be repaired, said Andrade.

The provincial government also plans to build the following under the stadium’s bleachers:

  • an 18-unit five-bed dormitory
  • an 11-unit eight-bed air-conditioned dormitel with comfort room
  • a nine-unit rentable area
  • a four-unit septic vault
  • a reception area
  • a cafeteria, and
  • a parking area.

The Stadium is a source of pride for the province. Its rehabilitation is important,” Andrade stressed.

Overall, the project will cost P18,333,598.90.

Andrade said the project awaits approval from Gov. Antonio del Rosario as of this writing. (JOHN HEREDIA with Capiz Aksyon News Center/PN)
