President Duterte has declared May 25, Monday, a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
In Proclamation No. 944, the President reminded the public that existing quarantine regulations must still be followed during the holiday observance.
“The entire Filipino nation must have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr, subject to existing community quarantine and social distancing measures,” the proclamation read.
“In order to bring religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Monday, 25 May 2020, a regular holiday throughout the country,” it added.
The holiday declaration on the Feast of Ramadan was made upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
The proclamation, signed by the President on May 19, noted that Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of the month of fasting.
Republic Act No. 9177 declares Eid’l Fitr a regular holiday throughout the country. The date of the holiday, however, depends on the Islamic calendar for each year.
