With the UFC moving full steam ahead after a forced break due to the coronavirus pandemic, all eyes are turning to UFC 250 on June 6. While the pandemic has made it difficult to pin down venues in advance, the fight card is most likely to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas or the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. VyStar has been the UFC's home for events in May as the promotion has returned to action, but UFC president Dana White has stated a desire to move U.S. fights back to Las Vegas once the Nevada State Athletic Commission gives the go-ahead.
While the card is still in the works, one title fight is confirmed for the event, with Amanda Nunes putting her women's featherweight championship on the line against Felicia Spencer. Nunes, who also holds the bantamweight title, will be making the first defense of her featherweight belt after winning the title with a 51-second knockout of Cris Cyborg in December 2018. She has made two successful bantamweight title defenses since that fight.
Spencer suffered her lone career defeat last July, a unanimous decision loss to Cyborg at UFC 240. She rebounded from that defeat in February with a first-round stoppage of Zarah Fairn Dos Santos. Spencer has experience in championship bouts, having won the Invicta FC featherweight title in November 2018.
There is much speculation surrounding the UFC 250 main event. With two weeks to go, the promotion is still working to put together the full card, including a big-name fight to serve as a pay-per-view headliner. However, they got some good news in the form of a bantamweight title eliminator. Aljamain Sterling and Cory Sandhagen have agreed to a non-title bout at 135 pounds. It fuels much speculation about the future of the title given Henry Cejudo's announced retirement at UFC 249 and with fellow competitor Petr Yan still waiting in the wings.
The card also added a little sugar to the mix on Thursday. "Suga" Sean O'Malley is back in action after a quick TKO win at UFC 248 in March when he takes on Eddie Wineland in a bantamweight bout. Plus, Neil Magny returns when he takes on Anthony Rocco Martin at 170 pounds, according to MMA Junkie.
