Tropical depression Gener now inside PAR

A tropical depression has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Thursday morning but it is not expected to directly affect the country, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The cyclone hovering northeast of extreme Northern Luzon entered PAR at 4 a.m. and was given local name “Gener.” It was the seventh tropical cyclone that entered the country’s jurisdiction this year.

At 10 a.m., “#GenerPH” was located 870 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour and gusts of up to 55 kph.

It is moving west southwest near the northern boundary of PAR and will remain far from the country’s landmass.

PAGASA said the tropical depression is expected to weaken into a low pressure area within 12 to 24 hours.

The weather bureau added no tropical cyclone signal will be hoisted throughout the forecast period as “Gener” is “unlikely to bring high impact weather over any part of the country.”

Residents of Bicol Mimaropa, Visayas and Mindanao will experience scattered rainshowers due to the effects of the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone.

Forecast position

Friday morning: 545 km northeast of Basco, Batanes
