Calvin Abueva Suspension Lifted

The PBA Commissioner's Office has lifted the suspension of Calvin Abueva paving the way for the Phoenix power forward to rejoin his team and play starting Monday.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, deputy commissioner Eric Castro and technical officer Mauro Bengua sat down with Phoenix Super LPG team manager Paolo Bugia, coach Topex Robinson and Abueva on Saturday morning and discussed the guidelines on the lifting of Abueva's suspension. Abueva is likewise to actively participate in counselling programs.

Marcial also laid down the fines and penalties (suspension) that will be meted out by the PBA Commissioner's Office should Abueva commit on and off-court misdemeanor in the future.

Abueva, relieved and remorseful, apologized and thanked his family, his team, his PBA family and his fans for their continued support especially during his most trying time.

The league commissioner said he hopes Abueva had learned a lesson from the suspension and encouraged him to continuously persevere, change for the better and be the 'Beast' who champions good manners and right conduct for himself, his family, his PBA family and the viewing public who look up to him as their hero and example.

Abueva, who has been allowed to join his teammates in the PBA bubble, was suspended indefinitely for his clothesline hit on TNT import Terrence Jones and a verbal altercation against Ray Parks' girlfriend.

The inclusion of Abueva in Phoenix's rotation provides the Fuel Masters an added depth when they face the NLEX Road Warriors on Monday.
