The PBA rookie draft pool just got a big offensive boost.
Adamson Soaring Falcons star guard Jerrick Ahanmisi has decided to skip his final year of UAAP eligibility and declare for the 2021 PBA draft on Friday, December 11.
This development came just hours after the UAAP announced that it has canceled Season 83 for “health and safety” concerns, effectively prolonging Ahanmisi’s and other student-athletes’ downtime from competition.
“I just feel like I’m ready for the PBA, and ready to start a new journey in my career. It’s going to be a tough one to pursue, but I’m ready to work and grind for it,” he said.
The 22-year-old gunner had his best year in the UAAP back in 2018, where he was named to the Mythical Team alongside other up-and-coming stars like Juan Gomez de Liaño, Alvin Pasaol, and Justine Baltazar.
Under the tutelage of multi-titled coach Franz Pumaren, Ahanmisi peaked in Season 81 with averages of 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on a blistering 39% clip from three-point range.
With Ahanmisi and current NorthPort guard Sean Manganti leading the way, the Falcons were practically one possession away from reaching that year’s finals before suffering a heartbreaking elimination against the UP Fighting Maroons.
Although he regressed a bit in Season 82, the 6-foot-1 Fil-Nigerian guard still has the offensive talent to immediately help out any PBA roster.
“My brother (Maverick) is in the league as well, so it’ll definitely be a dream come true to play in the same league as my brother, especially as professionals,” Ahanmisi said. “It’s going to be really fun!”
