Pope Francis on Thursday, March 25, named Cardinal Jose Advincula of Capiz as the new archbishop of Manila, ending a yearlong wait for the new head of the most powerful diocese in the Philippines.
The Manila Cathedral made this announcement around 7 pm on Thursday, saying it was made public in Rome at the same time.
Advincula, 68, is the first cardinal from the Archdiocese of Capiz. He formally became cardinal only in November 2020.
