There were no surprises to start the PBA Draft as highly touted prospects Joshua Munzon and Jamie Malonzo went No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the virtual ceremonies on Sunday, March 14.
After letting go of star guard CJ Perez in the offseason, Terrafirma found his replacement by acquiring Munzon as the top draftee, while NorthPort tabbed Malonzo as the second overall pick.
NLEX got the versatile wing player it needed by drafting former Calvin Oftana with the third pick, while TNT remedied the surprise PBA hiatus of star guard Ray Parks by selecting Mikey Williams with the fourth pick.
Left without a pick in the first two rounds, TNT pulled off a three-team trade with NLEX and Blackwater to acquire the No. 4 selection after Parks announced he will skip the upcoming PBA season.
Completing the top 5 was Santi Santillan, who went to Rain or Shine.
Three straight big men followed in the draft as Ben Adamos joined Alaska at No. 6, Larry Muyang landed at Phoenix at No. 7, and James Laput found himself picked by Terrafirma at No. 8.
Rounding out the first round were Alvin Pasaol (No. 9, Alaska), Jerrick Ahanmisi (No. 10, Magnolia), Troy Rike (No. 11, NorthPort), and Ken Holmqvist (No. 12, Barangay Ginebra).
