The Philippines will host for the third time the Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship, the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) confirmed on Saturday.
The 21st edition of the Asian women's volleyball tilt is set from Aug. 29 to Sept. 5 in Clark and Subic.
Philippine National Volleyball Federation president Ramon "Tats" Suzara told CNN Philippines on Sunday they are working to secure the nod of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases in hosting the tournament.
"No approval yet from IATF. We are processing it," said Suzara.
He said the Angeles University Foundation Gym, the San Fernando Convention Center, and the Subic Gym will be the playing venues for the upcoming AVC tilt. Teams will be billeted at the Royce Hotel and Quest Hotel inside the Clark Freeport Zone.
The country previously hosted the prestigious tournament, held every two years, in 1997 and 2017.
Jiangmen, China is the original host of the 21st Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship but it pulled out due to unspecified reasons.
According to AVC rules, the ten best-ranked teams in the previous Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship are automatically qualified to play in the next edition. These teams are 2019 champion Japan, runner-up Thailand, bronze medalist South Korea, China, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Indonesia, Australia, and India.
The Philippines is expected to parade in the AVC tilt its newly-formed team bannered by Jaja Santiago, Aby Maraño, Majoy Baron, Mylene Paat, and Eya Laure.
