Chery Tiggo cruises past Cignal for early PVL Open lead

Chery Tiggo kept its power game humming and steamrolled Cignal HD for a 25-16, 25-13, 25-19 romp and into the solo lead three playdates into the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra here last night.

The Crossovers used strong starts in all three sets to dominate early, using the big cushions to dash whatever hopes the HD Spikers had for a comeback, scoring the victory in a fashion that virtually mirrored their 25-20, 25-17, 25-6 rout of the PLDT Power Hitters in last Saturday's inaugurals of the country's first-ever pro volley league.

"We just want to thank God that we're still healthy and strong despite the adjustments that we have to do. Definitely, we still have to work on a lot of things," Crossovers head coach Aaron Velez said. "We played quite sluggish but still I'm happy that the players were able to execute what they're expected to execute."

Dindin Manabat and Jaja Santiago sustained the form they showed in anchoring the team's explosive debut in the PVL while Elaine Kasilag provided the spoiler's role when the HD Spikers waged what would be their last charge on a four-hit cluster that put them within, 19-23.

But Kasilag scored on a through-the-block hit then pounced on a sloppy Cignal reception to deliver an ace, capping another cruise of a win for a team ready to take on the league's big guns.

Santiago and Layug led the charge with 15 points each, having the same stat-line of 11 attacks, three aces, and a block.

Janine Marciano was the lone double-digit scorer for Cignal with 12 points off 10 attacks and a pair of aces
