Stunning top seed Lin Yu-Ting of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16, Petecio has the chance to become the first Filipino boxer to win an Olympic medal since Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco bagged silver in 1996.
By making the final four, Petecio will be guaranteed of a podium finish, with the semifinal losers earning bronze.
Meanwhile, swimmer Remedy Rule aims to advance to the next round as she sees action in the women's 200m butterfly semifinals at 10:04 am.
