PVL targets 2022 reopening

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) plans to reopen in February 2022, according to commissioner Tonyboy Liao.

Acting on suggestions of ballclubs, Liao said the intention of holding a conference this year in Metro Manila has been put on hold given the current Covid situation.

“Most of the club teams want it next year,” Liao said. “The set-up will depend on the number of (Covid) cases next year.”

He said the tentative date is February.

The PVL held the Open Conference last June in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte with Philippine Superliga powerhouse Chery Tiggo claiming its first PVL crown by dethroning Creamline.

Liao said they are looking at a maximum of 12 teams next season, leaving one available spot for any interested team.

“Teams will have to write to Sports Vision group and let us know if they want to participate,” Liao said.

“But first, they have to become a professional team.” /Ivan Suing
