Meet the iPhone 15 series: 48MP main camera, USB‑C charging, and gorgeous new designs

Apple has officially introduced its newest smartphone lineup: the iPhone 15 series.

During Apple's "Wonderlust" event on Sept. 12 (Sept. 13, Philippine time), the tech giant unveiled four variants of its newest smartphone invention: the iPhone 15 (6.1-inch), iPhone 15 Pro (6.1-inch), iPhone 15 Pro Max (6.7-inch), and iPhone 15 Plus (6.7-inch).

Here's what you need to know about each of the models:

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus

Right from the bat, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus boast a comfortable design thanks to its new contoured edge on the aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure and a textured matte finish.

Touted to hold its value longer than any other smartphone because of its water and dust-resistant design, the iPhone 15 has five stunning colors you can choose from: pink, yellow, green, blue, and black.

Available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature the Dynamic Island, which allows you to easily see the next direction in Maps, easily control music, as well as get real-time updates on food delivery, ride sharing, sports scores, travel plans, and more.

Its display level now peaks at 1,600 nits and can extend to up to 2,000 nits in sunny settings, making HDR photos and videos look better and allowing you to watch content and playing games with greater visual impact.

Of course, the new iPhones have also made improvements to what is arguably their best feature: the camera.

With its 48MP main camera, you'll be able to capture sharp photos and videos with excellent details.

If you're obsessed with taking selfies, next-generation portraits on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are even easier to achieve as the camera will automatically adjust when there’s a person, dog, or cat in the frame, or when a user taps to focus.

The new device is powered by an A16 Bionic chipset and has an all-day battery life.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max

For the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max variations, Apple gave the new products a strong yet lightweight design that is made from titanium, something that has never been done in previous iPhone models.

Available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes, the iPhone 15 Pro has one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios of any metal, making this Apple’s lightest Pro lineup ever. It takes advantage of the strength of titanium and combines it the toughest back glass in a smartphone and the industry-leading Ceramic Shield on the front, resulting in one durable phone.

Powering the device is the A17 Pro, the industry’s first 3-nanometer chip that is claimed to be 10 percent faster than the A16.

For its camera, the iPhone 15 Pro also features the same 48MP main camera that is enhanced by seven pro lenses. The enhanced setup further features an expansive 3x Telephoto camera, and iPhone 15 Pro Max provides the longest optical zoom ever on iPhone: 5x at 120 mm. This is ideal for close-ups, wildlife photos, and catching the action from further distances.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium finishes.

Charging the iPhone 15 series will now be made easier as Apple has decided to ditch the Lightning port for a USB-C connector, allowing the same cable to charge iPhone, Mac, iPad, and the updated AirPods Pro (2nd generation).

Safety features like crash detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite are also supported by the entire series. All models are also designed with the environment in mind, using recycled and other low-carbon materials.

The iPhone 15 series comes with a starting price of P56,990 for the base model, P63,990 for iPhone 15 Plus, P70,990 for Pro, and P84,990 for Pro Max. They will be available for pre-order on Sept. 15, with availability beginning Sept. 22.
