Des Cheng will miss the remainder of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) second All-Filipino Conference after suffering an ACL tear in her right knee.
Cheng, who hurt her knee in the second set of Choco Mucho’s straight-set win over Cignal on Thursday at Ynares Center Antipolo, will need to undergo surgery and is likely to miss a year.
Choco Mucho on Saturday evening confirmed that the do-it-all spiker suffered from a major injury after a careful review of her MRI results.
“Our doctors have diagnosed that it is an ACL tear that will require surgery and rehabilitation. Management will ensure that Des is given the best possible treatment and medical care in order to get her back in fighting form,” the Flying Titans said in a statement. “The team is saddened over this development but is hopeful for her safe return. Thank you to everyone for your concern and for keeping her in your prayers.”
Cheng, who joined Choco Mucho last year, sustained her second ACL injury as she had the same injury on her left knee last 2015 when she was still with F2 in 2015.
Choco Mucho, which holds a 2-1 record, will lean heavily on Sisi Rondina and backup wing spikers Isa Molde and Kat Tolentino.
Cheng was the third Flying Titan to suffer an ACL injury after Maddie Madayag last 2021 and Aduke Ogunsanya last year. Both middle blockers are back in action for Choco Mucho this third conference.
