CHERY Tiggo aims for a semifinals berth when it faces F2 Logistics in the 2023 PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena today.
The third ranked Crossovers take on the eighth ranked Cargo Movers at 6 p.m. in the nightcap of a triple-header, which starts with the battle between the Cignal HD Spikers and the Nxled Chameleons at 2 p.m.
The Akari Chargers and the Petro Gazz Angels collide in the middle of the schedule at 4 p.m.
Chery Tiggo outlasted Cignal, 17-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 16-14, for its fifth straight win that placed the team on the cusp of a semifinals berth, which the Crossovers will get if they beat the already-eliminated Cargo Movers today.
Eya Laure once again came through for Chery Tiggo as she fired 26 points including the match-clinching attack against Cignal.
Laure talked about the confidence in winning a hard-fought battle especially against a veteran team in the HD Spikers can bring to the Crossovers laden with youthful talent like her.
"Our doubts diminish when we gain confidence in every game that we win, especially against a veteran team because it makes us realize that we're capable of doing it," said Laure.
"We got to see the fruits of our labor in the past few months. It's nice because we're seeing the results that we put in."
Sitting in fourth place with a 6-3 slate, Cignal aims to inch closer to a semifinals berth with a win over the already-eliminated Nxled.
A win by the HD Spikers would also shut the semis doors on the Akari Chargers (5-4). A 3- or 4-set win by Cignal over Nxled would give the Shaq de los Santos a total of 22 points or 21 points in a 5-set win.
That would be enough for the HD Spikers to still have higher points than the Chargers who could only go as high as 20 points, having 14 at the moment.
Likewise sporting a 5-4 slate, Petro Gazz, which has 16 points, look to stay in contention for one of the two remaining semifinal berths. One more team fighting to keep itself in hunt for a semis berth is PLDT which has a 5-4 record with 16 points.
Unbeaten Creamline (8-0, 23 points) and second ranked Choco Mucho (8-1, 23 points), meanwhile, have already clinched the first two semifinals slots after dispatching separate foes last Thursday.
Creamline defeated Nxled, 25-23, 25-16, 25-21, as Choco Mucho took down PLDT, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25, 25-17, 15-12.
