Ginebra survives TNT's late rally, inches closer to Philippine Cup crown

Barangay Ginebra moved a win away from the All-Filipino title by fending off a late TNT comeback, 98-88, in Game 4 of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup Finals Sunday at the AUF Sports Arena and Cultural Center.

LA Tenorio took charge in the clutch and finished with 22 points and six assists for the Gin Kings, who avoided a meltdown after leading by as many as 18 to take a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven series against the Tropang Giga.

Game is 5 on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.

Ginebra built a 56-39 lead early in the third quarter and controlled most of the second half, but TNT roared back in the fourth and cut it within three twice as a red-hot Roger Pogoy injected some life back into a flatlining Tropang Giga offense.

Fortunately, Tenorio was there to steady the ship for Ginebra.

After Pogoy hit a pair of threes to help TNT pull within three twice, Tenorio fired back with a couple of his own -- the last which put the Gin Kings ahead by six, 94-88, with 1:43 to go.

Tenorio later hit a one-handed floater in the baseline with 55.1 seconds left that proved to be the dagger and the final basket of the game for both teams.

Japeth Aguilar added 22 and nine rebounds for Ginebra, while Stanley Pringle threw in 16.

Pogoy had 34 points, six assists and four rebounds to lead TNT in the loss.
