Triathlon expected to boost Capiz tourism

An international triathlon next year is expected to boost tourism in Capiz province.
Governor Tony Del Rosario and Capiz Tourism Officer Alphonsus Tesoro both have high expectations for the Capiz 1st International Triathlon which will be held on April 22 to 23, 2017.
Around 300 participants are expected to join race.
Jose Borres, triathlon director, said that Capiz can capitalize on the triathlon, a sport that is gaining popularity in the country.
The idea of Capiz hosting an international sports event came from Greg Atienza, a native of Capiz and former president of Smart Communications Inc.
It will not be the first time Capiz will host a major international event. It was also the venue for the 2010 International Dance Exchange which attracted participants from the United States, England, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines.
In 2009, Capiz hosted the Dungog Indigenous People’s Festival that gathered representatives from the country’s native groups for a weeklong event. (Tara Yap/Manila Bulletin)
