ROXAS City – The Department of Health (DOH) in Capiz started its Oplan Iwas Paputok 2017 program.
The program aims to remind the public of the dangers of using firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices this holiday season, especially on New Year’s Eve.
The program’s theme is “Iwas Paputok, Fireworks Display ang Patok,” according to DOH-Capiz Public Information Officer Joeffry Espiritu.
The Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and various local government units are supporting DOH’s campaign.
Espiritu said the Health department encourages the public to use alternative noise-makers like torotot and drums.
He also reiterated President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order 28, which regulates the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
“We are now monitoring fireworks- and firecracker-related injuries as there might be early users,” Espiritu said.
The official count will start on Dec. 21 to Jan. 6, though, he added.
In 2016, a 16-day monitoring of the DOH recorded a total of 57 cases of fricreacker-related injuries. (PIA/PN)
