TNT just took a major blow to its title aspirations.
Ray Parks made a stunning announcement on Saturday, March 6 that he will not suit up for the Tropang Giga in the upcoming PBA season as he deals with personal matters involving his family.
"It is with a heavy heart that I will have to excuse myself and not partake in this year's PBA season due to personal reasons, which [is] in particular, my family," Parks wrote on his social media accounts.
"It was not an easy decision to make, especially since I've been in constant talks with [the] TNT management, but right now, this is what's best for me and my family," he added.
The 28-year-old is coming off a stellar Philippine Cup campaign that saw him lead the Tropang Giga to the finals and contend for the Best Player of the Conference award.
Putting up impressive numbers across the board, Parks had a chance to win his first PBA championship, but he suffered a calf injury in the finals opener as TNT succumbed to Barangay Ginebra in 5 games.
With its injured stars like Parks and Jayson Castro regaining their top form and Chot Reyes returning as head coach, TNT was pegged as one of the heavy favorites to capture the All-Filipino crown next season.
TNT has not won a championship over the last 6 years.
However, that all changes following Parks' decision to take a break.
"I will always be grateful for the opportunity to represent TNT and be part of such a special team and culture," Parks said.
"Hopefully one day, once everything is resolved, I can come back to the team and help bring a championship to TNT."
