FILIPINO-AMERICAN volleyball star Kalei Mau has committed to play for the Philippine ladies' group in the 2021 AVC Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship on October 1 to 7 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
"I'm gonna be home (in Hawaii) for the month and then I'm going to be training and I'm going to Thailand to join the national team of the Philippines to play in the AVC. Let's go! Sambansa!" said the 26-year-old Mau in an Instagram story on Friday.
The AVC Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship will be the main competition where the 6-foot-2 Mau will address the Philippines. Her previously bid to join the public group for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games didn't appear because of her alliance with the USA volleyball league.
This won't be an issue this time around as the International Volleyball Federation endorsed her exchange of qualification to the Philippines last July.
Mau, who played neighborhood volleyball for the F2 and Cocolife, just completed her stretch with Changas de Naranjito which got done with a 12-2 record in the primer round of Liga de Voleibol Superior Femenino in Puerto Rico.
Mau and her squad, be that as it may, got cleared by the SanJuaneras de la Capital in the elimination rounds.
Mau, the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference Most Valuable Player, is one of the 24 players in the public pool, which will be parted into two contending crews in the AVC Championship.
Also included in the Women's National pool are Majoy Baron, Mylene Paat, Aby Maraño, Mhicaela Belen, Kamile Cal, Eya Laure, Imee Henandez, Jennifer Nierva, Ivy Lacsina, Bernadette Pepito, Faith Nisperos, Ria Meneses, Iris Tolenada, Dell Palomata, MJ Philips, Rhea Dimaculangan, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Kim Dy, Tin Tiamzon, Dawn Macandili, Jema Galanza, Deanna Wong and Kat Tolentino.
Lead trainer Odjie Mamon will make major decisions for the group alongside Brazilian expert Jorge Edson Souza de Brito.
