The Philippine women’s volleyball team bowed out of medal contention in the 2023 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship after a 25-20, 25-15, 25-17 loss to China on Thursday in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
In the first set, the Chinese team dealt a significant blow to the Philippine squad. However, the Philippine team managed to keep pace in the second frame, with the score tied at 11-all.
China, however, relied on its experience and talent as they outscored the National University Lady Bulldogs-represented Philippine team at 14-4 to take a 2-0 set advantage.
Team Philippines, under coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito, still tried to keep the match close in the third set and were still ahead at 16-15 after the second technical timeout, but China dropped a 10-1 scoring blast to seal the win.
With their second straight loss in the group stage, the highest finish that Team Philippines can attain is ninth place.
