ROXAS CITY - The province of Capiz is set to capture locals and tourists in the celebration of Capiztahan 2017 on April 20 to 23 marking the 116th foundation anniversary of the civil government of Capiz and the commemoration of the 69th death anniversary of the provinces most illustrious son, President Manuel Acuña Roxas.
Preparations are underway for the festivity as the provincial government under the administration of Governor Tony del Rosario has already conducted series of meeting to line up the activities that brings fun and excitement to spectators.
Among the Capiztahan events presented during the March 2 meeting held at the Hall of Governors of the provincial capitol graced by provincial and municipal officials, representatives of One Capiz Foundation and other Non-Government Organizations were the Capiz International Triathlon known as the TRIAKSYON, Sadsad Capiz , Parade of Lights, Fiesta Capiznon, Unlikultura Expo, Capiztahan Trade Fair, Agro Industrial Fair and Fireworks Competition.
Sadsad Capiz is a must-see event of the Capiztahan that will showcase Capiznon culture, pride and artistry through street dancing in mythical creatures and seafood costume.
“We want to be unique to create distinction from the famous Ati-Atihan and Dinagyang tribe for us to attract tourist. People will surely enjoy watching tribes in mythical creature and seafood costume dance to the beat of the drum.” Governor del Rosario said.
Each tribe is composed of at least 30 street dancers excluding drumbeaters. To heat up the event, the Governor has decided to make Sadsad Capiz a competition.
Meanwhile, innovations were introduced to the 5-year old Parade of Lights to charm the crowd with the dancers’ performance adorned with colorful led lights while showcasing the products and stories of every local government unit (LGU).
Other activities laid down for the festivity are Wreath Laying for the 69th Death Anniversary of President Manuel Acuña Roxas, Capiztahan Job Fair, Night Market (Bazaar and Street Food Fest), , Nightly Fireworks Display, Kapamilya Caravan, 6th National Invitational Arnis Tournament.
Regional Cooperative Summit, Capiztahan Governor’s Cup 2017 (Basketball Tournament), 1st Governor Tony del Rosario Capiztahan Regional Taekwondo Tournament Championship, Rendezvous with a Smile, Baroto Race, Battle of the Bands, Seafood Festival and a lot more.
The provincial government will be giving financial support to the Capiztahan event organizers and participants.
Participation of various sectors for the success of the event was emphasized by Governor del Rosario.
He also encouraged the local government officials to develop and enhance the promotion of their tourist destinations to draw tourists who came to visit Capiz during the Capiztahan. /Capiz Aksyon News Center
