TriAksyon eyes 300 registered participants

ROXAS City, Capiz – More than 300 athletes will arrive in Capiz to join the 2017 Capiz International Triathlon, also known as “TriAksyon”, on April 22 – 23.

The participants are from other countries such as the USA, Thailand, among others.

Triathletes from of Cebu, Leyte, Cavite, Manila, Makati, Quezon City, Bacolod City, Iloilo, Boracay Island, Aklan, and Capiz will also join.

Capiz Governor Tony del Rosario said “TriAksyon is expected to draw the crowd and attract more tourist arrivals as well as boast our local economy.”

The international participants are set to arrive early for inspection and familiarization of the routes.

Jose “Pepe” Borres said almost 200 participants have registered so far, including those from Singapore, Indonesia, China and Japan.

“In fact, we will wait for the confirmation of Sydney, Australia to join the Capiz TriAksyon event,” Borres added.



Philippine swimming icon Betsy Medalla also wants to join the race.



The Capizeña swimming idol is also interested to test the mettle of hundreds of participants more in particular in the crystal water of Roxas City beach.

Medalla, who traces her roots to Dumalag town, led the launching of TriAksyon at the Peoples Park in Brgy. Baybay here last Jan. 27, 2017 and swam from Baybay Beach in Roxas City to Mantalinga Island (vice versa).

Greg Atienza, Capiz International Triathlon chairman, confirmed that ACS Manufacturing Corp. and Double Dragon Properties will co-present the event. CANC/The Daily Guardian
