Capiz to host Int'l Triathlon

For the first time, Capiz, dubbed as the "The Seafood Capital of the Philippines", will be the battle ground of a field of seasoned international and local triathletes in the Capiz International Triathlon set April 22 to 23 in Roxas City.

Greg Atienza, the organizing chairman of the event said the event was conceptualized in support of his province' sports tourism program.

Atienza was among the guests in yesterday's weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum held at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.

"The event is also very good experience in sustaining our province' grassroot sports development, especially for the youth," said Atienza.

The event features a 1.5 kilometer swim, 54 kilometer bike and 1.2 kilometer run in four categories -- Standard, Relay, Sprint and Kids.

These three stages traverse within the areas marked by the picturesque view of the grey sanded shores of Baybay Beach and the vast Sibuyan Sea as the backdrop, passing the coastal barangays of the chartered city , and lures everyone's taste of the seafood and meat dripping into charcoal filling the air with aromatic fumes which comes from the array of restaurants and grills that line up along (Baybay) Beach.

The sports of triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines. There are many variations of the sport but the most popular form involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances.

Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed "transitions" between the individual swim, bike, and run components.*PNA (http://www.visayandailystar.com)
