ROXAS City – There are 56,199 senior citizen social pensioners in the province.
This was according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWS) data in August this year.
The number significantly soared from 9,121 two years ago after Republic Act 9994, or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, lowered the age limit to 60 years old from 65 years old due to availability of funds for the social pension.
But there were still indigent senior citizens not registered to the program, DWSD social pension focal person for Capiz Felix Gervasio Jr. said during the provincial convergence committee meeting on Sept. 5 in this city.
Gervasio said the indigents must register with their respective senior citizen’s centers to be enlisted in the DSWD program, entitling them a P500 monthly allowance.
The DSWD had allotted P101,369,500 for the program as of the third quarter this year.
“Qualified beneficiaries receive their social pension every first month of each quarter,” Gervasio explained. (PIA/PN)
